Nurturing our marriages helps us develop deeper and stronger intimacy. If you don’t already have a habit of nurturing marriage, though, it can be hard to know where to start or what to do.
We might know what the big things are—a positive attitude, prayer, devotion, attention to our husbands, romance, etc. Sometimes, though, we might need a little help seeing how that looks on a day-to-day basis.
I’m delighted to recommend a great new book to help you out: Cherishing Us: 365 Marriage Tips to Help You Grow Your Marriage (affiliate link), by Tom and Debi Walter at The Romantic Vineyard
Cherishing Us will help you learn how to tend your marriage every day.
What I love about it:
- The book gives you a marriage tip for each day of the year. The tips include actions, reflections, and encouragements that will nurture growth in your marriage.
- It is a book for both you and your husband. If intimacy is lacking between you, the process of going through this book together will help build that foundation. If you already have wonderful intimacy, the book will help you dig into deeper and richer areas.
- The tips can work in so many marriages, from the “we’re barely past the honeymoon and who knew we would argue about the thermostat” marriage to the “between our jobs and our kids we’re mostly roommates” marriage to the “even after 50 years our marriage is getting better and better” marriage. You can start wherever are in your marriage and keep growing from there.
- The book is organized by seasons. I love this so much. Marriages experience different seasons as couples navigate life together. This is a book that acknowledges that not all seasons of marriage are the same.
- The tips are only part of the charm of the book. Questions will help you and your husband talk about how you’ve been growing. You’ll find creative date night ideas. Every page will remind you of how your marriage draws you closer to God.
- Romance, romance, romance. If you’ve ever visited their website, you know they do romance well. Their date night ideas are romantic and lovely. Truly. (I’ve already decided on one I want to use with Big Guy.)
- Tom and Debi are real and absolutely lovely. When Big Guy and I were at their cabin last spring, I saw right away how genuine and deep their love and commitment are. They have such a heart for each other, for marriage, and for Jesus. That heart shines through this book.
